An explanation of basic maneuvering and how toggling flight assist can be useful.
If, like me, you have tried turning flight assist off and then wondered why anyone would fly without it, or you don’t know what flight assist is, then this video might be for you.
I am aware that some people can fly without using flight assist at all. If you want to see how its done properly, then check out my next post for 2 videos of a pilot far better than me flying without flight assist.
Watching this, I can see that I need to toggle flight assist off, and sometimes turn, earlier than I did in the combat scenes. I need to get back into that asteroid field and dent a few more ships practicing, while I still have the Alpha and won’t pay for ship repair/replacement!
Note: In this video I say, “We don’t use yaw”. More accurately, I am explaining why yaw is not good for fast turns. It is of course great for small aiming adjustments and other such more nuanced maneuvers.
*** I will make an updated version of this video, when the Beta version is released and the flight model is more settled. There have already been some revisions to the relative speeds of yaw-pitch-roll and reverse-thrust etc. Therefore, the advice in this video is already somewhat out-of-date. ***
